AB Karl Hedin Bio Innovation was invited to present its biomass fractionation technology and the applications enabled by tailored lignin at the BioEco Valley Summit 2026, held in Karlstad on 16–17 June.
The summit brought together researchers, startups and industrial representatives working toward a more sustainable and circular bioeconomy. This year’s theme, “Lignin, Fibers & Optimized Circular Processes,” closely aligned with our work on transforming sawmill side streams into advanced bio-based materials. The program covered topics ranging from startup development and lignin commercialization to scale-up, sustainable growth and new research in circular bio-based processes.
During the Insight Session on research and innovation, Johan Gising, CEO of AB Karl Hedin Bio Innovation, presented the company’s approach to producing tailored lignin through one-step biomass fractionation. Our technology combines lignin extraction and modification in a single process, allowing lignin properties to be adapted to different end uses. Current areas of exploration include conductive carbon and battery materials, composites, coatings, water purification and colloidal lignin nanoparticles.
The summit provided two valuable days of discussions, new perspectives and meetings across the bioeconomy community. In particular, the focus on moving technologies from research toward scalable industrial solutions made it an excellent forum for exchanging experiences and exploring future collaborations.
